Partner with intelligent solutions
From 6 to 11 June 2005, the Interschutz/
Interpolice trade fair was held in the German
city of Hanover. Some 140,000 visitors
came to the world's largest fire brigade
fair to find out more about what the 1,385
exhibitors had to offer.
Dräger Safety was represented with two
large booths, one in Hall 27 (covering a
floor space of 464 square metres) and one
outside (365 square metres). In addition,
Dräger Safety products were to be found all
over the place – for example at the booth
of the German Association of Works Fire
Brigades, where Dräger Safety had set up
a complete respiratory protection workshop.
When the fair officially opened, the run on
the Dräger booths started immediately. The
picture was more or less the same just
about the entire time: swarms of visitors
surrounding the exhibits and asking questions
of the Dräger Safety team manning
the booth. At times, the central feature of
the booth – a 360-degree cinema screen –
had to be closed to visitors because it was
full.
Luckily, the visitors had the chance to make
a detour to the outdoor booth situated
directly in front of Hall 27, where there was
plenty going on and music, pretzels and
cold beer were on offer. All day long, the
visitors were entertained by the various
presentations – exercises conducted in the
Fire Dragon and broadcast directly on a
screen, abseiling demonstrations and explanations
about the DrägerDive container: the
visitors certainly got their money's worth! |

One thing that was very noticeable was that
the international aspect is becoming more
and more important – for instance, as well
as most of the chief fire officers of German
fire brigades, the Dräger Safety booth was
also visited by the head of the Moscow
Fire Department and the chief fire officer
from the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, not to
mention representatives of fire brigades
from the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland
and France. As such, the Interschutz
trade fair offered an excellent international
platform at which to find global solutions
capable of meeting the demands of a
much-changed safety architecture.
During the official opening tour, Safety CEO
Professor Jugel and vfdb President Hans
Jochen Blätte explained to Interior Minister
of Lower Saxony Uwe Schünemann how an
intelligent software solution developed jointly
by Dräger Safety ISS and the vfdb (German
Fire Protection Association) functions.
This "Drägerware Direct" software allows
heads of operations to control major fire
scenes effectively and centrally, ensuring
optimal coordination of fire fighters.
Dräger Safety was also able to demonstrate
its approach to service and problem solutions
in an extremely impressive manner
at the Interschutz: "Given the current budgetary
restraints in the public sector, customers
no longer expect us only to provide
devices and technology“, explained Professor
Albert Jugel, "and see us rather as a
partner able to provide intelligent solutions
to help fire brigades reliably perform their
duties.“
When the trade fair closed its gates at
6 pm on Saturday evening, Dräger Safety
booth manager Andreas Straub and his
team were more than satisfied. An intensive
exchange of thoughts and information with
device users and decision-makers in the
fire service had shown that Dräger Safety
is on the right track with its entire range of
products and services.
The next Interschutz will be held in five
years.
