The cooling vest is a comfortable piece of
clothing designed to absorb excess body
heat when the wearer spends time in hot
ambient conditions. This is possible thanks
to the PCM (Phase Change Material)
chambers incorporated into the cooling vest.
The main constituent of PCM are sodiumsulphate
additives which become liquefied
when exposed to high temperatures and
therefore help cool the vest wearer.
Ambient temperatures of below 25 °C/77 °F
bring about a phase change. If the vest is
stored flat after use, the PCM chambers
become solid once again after a reaction
time of 0.5 – 2 hours. The cooling vest can
be worn comfortably conventional protective
clothing.
Areas in which the cooling vest would be
useful include fire-fighting, training in fire
simulation facilities, work performed in
chemical protective suits, work performed
near furnaces, and any other situation in
which the wearer is exposed to permanently
high levels of heat.
Specifications
- The cooling vest is designed to improve
the wearer's comfort when spending time
in high ambient temperatures.
- The incorporated PCM cushions are
water-based.
- At temperatures below 25 °C/77 °F, the
PCM cushions are in solid state. Above
a temperature of 28 °C/82.4 °F, the
cushions “melt” and release cooling
energy.
- The increase in body temperature of the
cooling vest wearer is reduced by 3-4 °C/
37.4 - 39.2 °F when exposed to heat.
- – The reaction time for the PCM cushions
to return to a solid state after use is
approx. 0.5–2 hours (depends on the
ambient temperature)
Because there is no need to store the cooling
vest at low temperatures in readiness
for use, it is easier to handle, with no logistic
aspects needing to be given consideration
for use: e.g.: the cooling vest is stored
(sizes L to XL and XXL – XXXL) next to
the chemical protective suit and is ready for
use at any time (it must be stored at temperatures
below 25 °C/77 °F)
